Britney Spears’ former manager hopes to rekindle his friendship with the troubled singer.
Sam Lutfi was prevented from seeing Britney after her parents took a restraining order out against him following her breakdown earlier this year, believing he was a negative influence on the ‘Toxic’ singer.
Sam is due in court for a review of the order – which forbids him from being closer than 250 yards away from the star - on July 31 and is said to be hopeful it will be lifted.
A source told In Touch Weekly magazine: “Sam believes that he and Britney are still friends. If the restraining order is lifted, he’ll be back in her life for sure.”
According to the insider, Sam still denies allegations made by Britney’s mother Lynne that he drugged the singer and controlled her medications.
The source added: “Sam insists it will come out that the restraining order was against the wrong guy. So lifting the order would give him the chance to protect Britney from the vultures out there.”
Sam is due in court the same day Britney’s father’s co-conservator role is set to be reviewed.
Jamie is currently jointly responsible for Britney’s personal and professional affairs.

Britney and Justin met on Disney TV show, The Mickey Mouse Club, in 1993, they started dating in 1998 but split in 2002.
It is widely thought that Justin's singles Cry Me A River and What Goes Around were written about Britney.
Lady Ga Ga, 22, made the rounds on radio stations 99.9 FM & Z103.5 in Toronto today, and revealed she is working with Britney, and has already written & recorded two songs for Brit.
"When Mad-Dog (one of the morning show hosts) asked her [Lady Ga Ga] when the album would be released, she went on to say that she "couldn't imagine it would be this year," but probably mid-2009, as Britney was very much in the early stages of the album when she worked with her. She also went on to say that the album is very much a continuation to "Blackout," but 10 times bigger in production value, and that the comeback would have people "regretting putting those videos of her on YouTube."
She produced Britney's hit single "Gimme More" -- now singer/producer Keri Hilson is opening up to "Extra" about working on Britney's upcoming CD!
We caught up with Hilson backstage at F'N MTV, where she was a guest judge on last week's episode, and she told us that working with Spears is "completely normal."
There's a magazine out there that is pushing a story that Jayden James is autistic. It ain't so.
In case you read it, we're told by Britney Spears' peeps that the story is ridiculous. Brit was at Jenny McCarthy's autism event Saturday night, and the mag figured two and two added up to five.
Britney usually causes chaos with the pappers whenever she leaves the Spears estate, but TMZ's camera was the only one around when she went out to dinner with model mom Lynne at Wolfgang Steakhouse in Beverly Hills.
Two paparazzi have been arrested near pop star Britney Spears' home in Los Angeles and charged with suspicion of loitering.
A police patrol spotted the two photographers illegally parked on a city-owned fire access road off limits to the public.
Although they were told to leave, the pair had not moved when police returned to the area 45 minutes later, and were promptly arrested.
The paparazzi were taken to North Hollywood Station, where they were booked on suspicion of loitering and released.
Their vehicle was towed and impounded by the Los Angeles Police Department.
The street where the arrest took place is near the Spears residence in Los Angeles' Studio City, which is often staked out by paparazzi and reporters seeking the latest glimpse of the 26-year-old icon or gossip about her troubled personal life.

July 20 - Britney shopping at M. Fredric in Calabasas
She’s been keeping super busy with a career comeback in the works and a custody battle that’s finally over. And yesterday (July 20th), Britney Spears treated herself to a day of shopping to unwind.
The “Gimme More” singer was spotted shopping in Calabasas with a couple of assistants, stopping into the M. Fredric boutique before emerging with a bag full of finds.
And she looked cool and casual in a turquoise blue tank top with a pair of worn-in jeans and brown shoes along with an oversized pair of celebrity sunglasses.
The night before (Saturday), the “Piece of Me” songstress joined celebu-couple Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey for a fundraiser for Generation Rescue to benefit autism research.
An eyewitness told press, “She looked great and seemed really happy. She smiled and clapped during the video about autism. She was very into the information and watched a little bit of the dancers from Dancing with the Stars, sneaking out during one of the performances.”

Britney Spears' record label are trying to force her into recording a new album. The troubled 26-year-old singer - who was recently photographed emerging from a recording studio with her manager Larry Rudolph - wants to concentrate on her acting career, but is reportedly being pushed to make a new record.
A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Britney wants to focus on her TV and movie career right now. Jive Records and Larry are having trouble getting her to record, so they forced her hand by releasing the photo of her and Larry and a statement saying she is working on a new album this summer." Earlier this week, Larry revealed Britney was busy recording her new album.
He said in a statement: "She is spending her summer in the recording studio, working on a brand new album. She's working with a team of top-notch producers and songwriters, and we're very excited about what she's accomplished so far. No album release date has been confirmed yet." Earlier this year, Britney received rave reviews for her two cameo appearances in US TV show 'How I Met Your Mother', prompting speculation she may return to the role in future episodes.
The mother-of-two also enjoyed success with her 2002 movie 'Crossroads' and was in negotiations to star as Daisy Duke in 'The Dukes of Hazzard'. The role was eventually filled by Britney's pop rival Jessica Simpson. Britney's last album 'Blackout' was released in October 2007 and proved a hit with both critics and fans.
Network executives for U.S. sitcom HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER have slammed reports BRITNEY SPEARS' guest role on their show saved it from being canned.
Spears was snubbed for her stint on the show earlier this month (Jul08) when she was left off the top 10 list of Emmy semifinalists in the Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category.
And though show ratings soared when the pop star played a ditzy secretary in two recent episodes, CBS bosses insist it wasn't Spears who saved the show.
Network entertainment president Nina Tassler explains: "It (How I Met Your Mother) was never in danger; we just took a while to make the announcement (of its renewal)."
Chiefs at Spears' record label JIVE were rumoured to be questioning her dedication to her comeback album when reports surfaced on Friday (18Jul08) the Toxic star was more interested in focusing on her acting career.
CBS heads have not confirmed Spears will be making another return to the show.

Britney Spears Attacks Justin Timberlake, Mom on New Album
Britney Spears will use her new album to lash out on those who have wronged her, according to a new report.
The Toxic hitmaker will be putting the finishing touches to the album, the follow-up to 2006's 'Blackout', over the summer; and Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper claims that in one song, titled 'ATM', Britney accuses her mother of using her for money. It contains the lyrics: "Hey Mama, I know it's my cash you seek... You know they treat me like an ATM, but y'all know that I'm too good for 'em."
Another song, titled 'Already Bad', takes aim at her relationship with Justin Timberlake, dismissing her teenage claims that she would not have sex before marriage - and suggesting she wasn’t even a virgin when they started dating. "I know you thought you were the first, but I had already quenched my thirst, I was already bad," the song reveals.
A source told the paper, "The songs are up tempo and there are some wicked heavy beats. She's built on the foundations she laid in her last album, Blackout.
"These tunes will change the way people think about Britney. A lot of people have messed her around over the years and she’s bottled up all this anger and now she’s just let it all out."

With her custody settlement behind her, Britney Spears took time out on Saturday night to do something for the kids, adding star wattage to Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey's fundraiser for Generation Rescue, an organization dedicated to researching autism.
"She looked great and seemed really happy," says a partygoer of the Snow Queen Vodka-sponsored shindig at the couple's home in Brentwood. Though she kept close to her assistant Brett and didn't speak to other guests, "She smiled and clapped during the video about autism. She was very into the information and watched a little bit of the dancers from Dancing with the Stars, sneaking out during one of the performances."
As guests like McCarthy's beau and Charlie Sheen and wife Brooke Mueller made the rounds, Spears, 26, sipped on red wine.
Also at the bash were newlyweds Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller ("The honeymoon isn't over!" remarked one guest), a "lovey-dovey" Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan, who kissed and danced all night, and of course the host couple.
"Jenny and Jim were adorable," says the guest, "She kept saying, 'I love you honey' to him when she thanked him from the stage." Carrey, not to be outdone by the DWTS folks, soon took to the dance floor, even challenging another guest to a playful dance-off.
Says the guest, "Jim was hilarious."
It was Spears' first public outing since reaching a custody agreement with ex Kevin Federline last week.

X17 can exclusively report that while Britney and Kevin's lawyers were hashing out a new custody agreement last night, Britney was at Ben Kitay productions in Hollywood. Photogs say she was at the studio from 9pm until 10:30 at night, auditioning dancers presumably for a music video for her next single!
But as excited as we are for a new Britney album, is this really what she wants or needs right now? According to the Post, she'd rather concentrate on her acting career, but Jive records and manager Larry Rudolph are forcing her to spend "the summer in the studio, working on a brand-new album"!
Following this morning court proceedings, where lawyers for Britney Spears and Kevin Federline announced to commissioner Scott Gordon that they had agreed on a final settlement in their drawn-out custody battle, Laura Wasser, Brit's attorney spoke to OK! about the resolution to this long legal feud.
"It's a victory for both sides," claims Wasser. "They both want what's best for the kids and they both wanted to avoid a trial. They thought it wasn't necessary or cost-effective."
Wasser also confirmed that Britney still has Sean Preston, 2, and 1-year-old Jayden James for two day visits and one overnight visit per week, adding, "She will have more custodial time by the end of the year."
As for her client's state of mind, the legal eagle says, "Britney's doing great. She's very excited to have her kids overnight today." This is a slight break from the pop star's normal schedule with her boys, which had previously seen them having their overnight visits on Saturday evenings.
And to those who might see this agreement, which has K-Fed maintaining sole physical custody, Wasser clarifies, "There was never a fight over custody; That wasn't the issue... The issue was about getting more time [with the boys.]"
Meanwhile, Kevin's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan tells OK! that his client is "very happy" with the agreement and with being able to avert the "economic and emotional cost" of a trial.
Currently, the agreement between the Spears and Federline camp is still awaiting approval from Gordon, though he is expected to ratify the deal early next week.
Britney Spears's custody settlement with her ex Kevin Federline, in which he retained sole custody of the couple's two sons, came at a price.
A source close to the singer confirms she'll now pay Federline $20,000 a month in child support, an increase from $15,000.
Federline's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, also demanded and received $250,000 for his work on the case, the source adds.
"All Britney was seeking was a formalization of her increased visitation that she's obtained over recent weeks, and the additional overnight," the source said. "She won both of those requests."
Spears, who is represented by lawyer Laura Wasser, currently sees her sons twice a week with one overnight. The source adds that she will get an additional overnight by year's end, barring any setbacks.
At a press conference following Friday's hearing, Kaplan declined to address any monetary settlement. "This has been a long ordeal [for Kevin]," Kaplan said, "and for it to be over makes him very happy."

OK! Exclusive: Britney Ends Fight to Win Back Custody
In a shocking new development, OK! has learned exclusively that Britney Spears has ended her battle to win back custody of her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, from ex-husband Kevin Federline.
In an exclusive interview with OK!, Kevin's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan says both Britney and Kevin reached and signed off on a settlement in their custody case today.
Kaplan tells OK!, "At about 8 p.m. PT, a final settlement in the Kevin Federline-Britney Spears custody case was signed. All parties have agreed to the following: Kevin will retain sole legal and physical custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James. Britney will continue to have visitation rights which may increase over time. The agreement will be presented to the court in the morning for approval by the commissioner."
Kaplan adds, "Kevin is ecstatic and the boys are thriving."
Britney, who remains under the legal conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears, lost custody of her sons to Kevin last October. At the time she had visitation privileges but they were severely restricted following her January hospitalization for psychiatric evaluation.
She currently has monitored visitation with her sons two days a week and one overnight.

Expert: Britney & Kevin Will Likely Settle Custody Case
Britney Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline are headed for a custody trial next month – but some legal experts say a settlement is more likely.
"If Britney goes to trial, it's a gamble," says L.A. family lawyer Lynn Soodik, who's not involved with the case. "Yes, she could win more time with her kids, or she could lose what's already in place."
The former couple, who are parents to Preston, 2 1/2, and Jayden, 1 1/2, are due back in court Friday for a routine custody hearing.
Spears currently has monitored visitation with her sons twice a week with one overnight. In January, after a forced hospitalization at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Spears lost all visitation rights with her kids until the following month.
"It's extremely rare for a parent to be under conservatorship during a custody battle," adds Soodik. "Because of this, it's in her best interest to fight for more custody only after she regains her health. A settlement can happen at any time."
A source close to Spears says the singer will likely get increased visitation as time goes on.
She remains under her father's legal control until July 31, when a court will decide whether to extend his powers.
